South African writer, Brenton Brown, was attending a Band/Worship Leader Retreat when he was feeling tired. As he prayed to God, the phrase “Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord” just popped up. Later on, he and his wife contracted “Chronic Fatigue Syndrome”. One day, his friend Ken Riley played a pre-chorus for Brenton. They put together their work and were inspired by the verses in Isaiah Chapter 40 where God promises to lift up and strengthen those who put their hope in Him.
Isaiah 40:29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Dear Heavenly Father,
If the person reading this is feeling tired, weary, or weak, may she know that You know fully what she has been through and what she is going through right now. If it is physical, emotional, mental, financial, or spiritual fatigue she is facing, You know its depth and breadth. You are greater than her heart. You are almighty and eternal, You are our Strong Deliverer on whom we can hope. You are the Defender of the weak. You are the compassionate Comforter of those in need. You are the Lifter of our heads, You lift us up on wings like eagles. You renew our strength. May You reveal Yourself to this person in a special way and uplift her from the inside out. 18 I pray that the eyes of her heart may be enlightened in order that she may know the hope to which You have called her, the riches of Your glorious inheritance in Your holy people, 19 and Your incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 You exerted when You raised Christ from the dead and seated him at Your right hand in the heavenly realms (Eph1:18-20) in Jesus’s name amen.
EVERLASTING GOD
Brenton Brown, Ken Riley
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won’t grow weary
(Pre-Chorus)
Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won’t grow weary
You’re the defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on wings like eagles
